Obituary of Barbara G Knighton
Barbara Knighton, born June 9, 1930, passed away on September 24, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was a loving mother to Ted Knighton, John Knighton, and Barbara Robertson. She raised her children with love and devotion alongside the love of her life, her husband, Samuel Edward Knighton, Jr. She regularly cited how her husband was “the best thing that ever happened to me.” They lived and traveled all over the world together. From New York to New Zealand, Australia, and so many places in between. Her most cherished possession was her gold wedding band. Her husband preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children Ted Knighton, John Knighton and Barbara Roberston. Her son, Dennis White, also preceded her in death. She is survived by ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Aside from all the grandchildren and great grandchildren she loved and cared for, Barbara is survived by her sister, Jeanette Murray.
She was affectionately called “Grandma Boat”, by her grandchildren and great grandchildren because everyone knew how much she and her family loved boating as a lifestyle. The Knighton family had many different boats over the years and she was extremely proud of each and every one of them. Each boat led them to so many family adventures and lifelong memories were made.
An avid gardener, Barbara was known for her love of tending to her plants and flowers. She loved digging in the earth, and helping her plants flourish and grow. She especially loved feeding the various birds and squirrels that came to enjoy her gardens every day. She was recently honored as the longest active member of the Garden Club of Montville (Lake Valhalla Garden Club) for having participated in the club for over forty years.
A Visitation will be held at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 NJ-10, Randolph, NJ 07869 (Tuttlefh.com), on Friday, October 4, 2024 from 6pm-8pm and her burial will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church Cemetery, 855 Middle Neck Road, Kings Point, NY 11024 at 11:30am on Saturday, October 5, 2024. She will be buried alongside her late husband.
