Obituary of John M. Joyce Sr.

John (Jack) M. Joyce Sr, 65, of Elizabeth entered into God’s kingdom on May 13th 2023. Jack was born on October 13th 1957, in Elizabeth NJ to Rose Joyce (née Cameron) and John (Jack) P. Joyce.

Upon graduating high school, Jack enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served for 4 years attaining the rank of Sergeant. After honorable discharge in 1980 Jack remained in California until returning home to NJ in the late 1980’s. Shortly after he married his second wife, Laura, they welcomed their only son, John. A hard worker and devoted father, Jack worked long days as a truck driver and anxiously awaited spending time with his son on the weekends where they would enjoy quality father and son time; whether that be playing catch, basketball or watching reruns of The Three Stooges.

In addition, as a man of strong faith, Jack and John attended Church on Sunday mornings. Most recently, Jack enjoyed visiting his new grandson, Charles (Charlie,) who was the light of his life. Jack was known by all as a generous man with a big heart and an excellent sense of humor. Jack had the ability to command a room and make everyone in it double over in laughter. He always had a story for every occasion and was famous for always remembering exact dates where events occurred, even ones where he was a young boy.

Jack is preceded in death by his mother Rose Joyce, and his God-Mother Loretta Karczewski. Jack is survived by his son John (Mea) Joyce and their son Charles (Charlie), father John P. (Marie) Joyce, sister Antoinette, brother Thomas (Margie) Joyce, sister Lynda (Ravi) Joyce, niece Danielle (Brian) Davis and countless cousins and lifelong friends.

There will be a visitation at Tuttle Funeral Home,  272 State Route 10, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com) on Sunday, May 21st 2023 from 1-5 PM.  Mass will be held on Monday, May 22nd at 10:30 AM at Little Flower Church in Berkeley Heights. There will be a private burial to follow. Jack will be laid to rest at Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sparta Township.
