Walter Hoffman, Jr.

September 5, 1929 – December 15, 2022

Walter Hoffman, Jr., a long-time resident of Randolph, New Jersey, entered peacefully into eternal rest on December 15, 2022.  Devoted husband to Carmela (Cary) Hoffman for 23 years. Beloved father to his sons Todd Hoffman (Vivian), Tim Hoffman (Mary), the late Kris Hoffman (Clare), and his Bonus children Vanessa Nuzzolo (Anthony), Bethany Ficacci-Kretzmer (Chris), Audra Norman (Andre) and William Ficacci. He was Gramps/Papa to 14 grandchildren, Jennifer Boone, Melissa Hoffman, Jimmy Hoffman (Joelle), Megan Hoffman, Ryan Hoffman, Matthew Hoffman (Terin), Desmond Nuzzolo, Cooper Scro, Bella Scro, Kyle Kretzmer, Avery Norman, Brooks Norman, Antonia Ficacci and Giana Ficacci. Also survived by niece Sharon Fitch (Richard) and family, and sister-in-law Dorothy Eagles. Predeceased by his loving wife Jane Hoffman of 43 years and sister Lillian Jeffers (Jeff).

Walter proudly served in the US Army during WWII and received the Victory medal for his service. Four years ago, he became a member of the Wharton American Legion Post 91. He continued his service to the Department of Defense as a federal employee at Picatinny Arsenal for 32 years. He began his career as a Tool Maker and worked his way up to a Program Analyst before retiring there. Walter had many ministries that he was passionate about.  He was an active member of Hope Church in Randolph, NJ. He shared the love of Jesus at three different prisons with Kairos Prison Ministries (now called Kenosis) for over 30 years. He was also involved with the Tres Dias community for 43 years and participated in three bible study groups.

Walter affectionately went by many nicknames including June, Hoffy, Huffy, Fred, Gramps, Papa and even King Humble. He loved being with his wife, family, friends, and his church community. He enjoyed fishing with his sons and grandsons, participating in bowling leagues, solving puzzle books with the grandkids, taking bus trips to New England, and date days to discover a new restaurant or adventure. Walter had a tremendous sense of  humor, cheerful heart, positive outlook, and delighted everyone he met. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We will all miss your smiling face.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and deep appreciation for all acts of kindness shown to Walt and his wife over the years and all expressions of sympathy shown during this time of bereavement. Heartfelt gratitude to Todd Hoffman, Bethany Ficacci-Kretzmer, William Ficacci, Sharon Fitch, Pastor Ridgway and Jim Prommel for their unconditional love and care to Walt and Cary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope Church, 658 Millbrook Ave, Randolph, NJ 07869 (Benevolence) or Kenosis Prison Ministry, 186 Fox Hill Ct, Lake Hopatcong, NJ 07849.
