I’m just seeing that Tom passed away. I’m so devastated. I stopped being able to get a hold of him a few years back. I knew and loved Tom my whole life. Tom treated my family so well and they all loved him. An incredible sense of humor. Always showed so much interest in our lives. So unselfish with his time when we would visit. We had so many great times on Elk Lake and fishing at the ponds. Tom and Joan were magical people. I truly hope his last years were great. I could go on and on. I put a few old pictures on here from trips back east. My dad really lived Tom. We were relatives through marriage but we loved Tom as much or more than any relative we had. I would love to hear from Denise or Jack. fope1971@att.net

I was just told of Tom's passing and am deeply saddened by this news. I never met Tom but had the pleasure and honor of talking to him on several occasions over the past 5-10yars. We both had a very special honor that we both achieved when we were in high school. Tom was the fastest high school miler in the country in 1955 and I was the fastest high school miler in the country in 1960 and 1961. I had an interest in finding out what happened to all the top high school milers after they left high school and college. I wrote to Tom, and we communicated on the phone about our lives after sport and found his history and career and family very inspiring. He relayed his running career and records he set in high school and in College at Kansas. When I called him, we talked for over an hour. We both had that moment in sport. The one race which put you on top of everyone who was trying for the same goal.
He is a hero to me and I want to tell all his family and friends that he was a true champion not only in track but in all he achieved and to all he loved on his way.
God Bless him an his family
Tom Sullivan, M.D.

Tom, thanks for being such a good neighbor to us at Elk Lake. You were the epitome of class and were very kind to us. And thanks for warning me about the approaching storm when I was starting to stain my deck. You were right! I will always remember you walking down to the lake and coming back with your pail of walleye! Rest in peace, kind neighbor. Thank you for your class and character.

My sincerest condolences to the Skutka family. I am sorry that I am not able to come to the visitation or mass. Know that I am with you in spirit and am holding you in my prayers. I remember the good times at the cottage at Elk Lake with all of the Skutka family members in the 1980's and 1990's. As a child, I saw Tom run by our house near Waymart, PA many times. He looked relaxed as though there was nothing to running for miles and miles. Later, I married into the Lozo family and became Tom's sister-in-law. His first wife Joan and my husband Jack were siblings. We went antiquing together. I remember when Tom reached his goal of collecting 100 pitchers. He was very happy. We all delighted in their beauty. We also planted flowers at many cemeteries in two states to be sure everyone on the Lozo family tree was remembered for Memorial Day. We shared memorable holidays and went fishing at their ponds in South Canaan. I'll never forget the trip to Maryland for pre-dawn crabbing using chicken necks as bait! We spent the rest of the day cooking, cleaning, and freezing blue crab meat. At home in Hibernia, Tom worked hard to make the soil just right so his daffodils would thrive and put on a stunning show every spring. He was the type of person who encouraged those around him to thrive through his kind manner and sense of humor. Tom will be missed by many, but his memory will live on through each of us. Tom followed his father's advice of doing something good for someone every day. Those actions made positive changes in his world and added up to a life well lived. Blessings to all.

Hi Tom
Although years and miles have separated us - 45+??? - we have always remembered you and the times you came over to our house to show us how to catch fish - something the rest of us couldn't do. Always were glad to hear from you at Christmas with our cards. Some people make an impression on one's life - you were one of them. Rest happy with our Lord and sure hope we get together in the hereafter. Our prayers for you and your family.

My Dear Uncle Tom,
Thank you for the life you lived. You not only touched family and friends but to all those around you. Born on April 1st 1937-“April Fools Day”. Little did we know that you would live it in life. Joyful in life with your charismatic humor. You brought laughter and smiles to our lives. You touched each of us as only you could in your own special way. We are all blessed you were in our lives.
You were many things in life to each of us. A Brother- you were always there when we needed you. You picked us up when we were down. You were a cherished companion to us all in life’s journey. You were an encouragement to your family. Through it all you were trusting and loyal. A special person to share the memories of life with. A Runner- a runner for life you were “Mr Morris Hills”. In 1955 you were the first high school boy to break the 4:20 mile in perfect stride. So in a life we’ll lived you continually pushed yourself as you glided over many many miles of asphalt and countless shoes. A Librarian- to all those at Morris Hills. You reminded us of all the good things in this life. You impacted many minds over those years. Each of those students needed a little bit of you and they each got a little piece of you. Uncle Tom the great fisherman. There were never any tails or fish stories. You were born to fish and you had a knack for detecting wherever they would be. The consummate traveler- you traveled the world and saw all its wonders. You saw that we only occupied a small portion in this vast world. You traveled as this saying goes” the world is a book and those who don’t travel read only one page”. Most of all you were a Loving Husband. You a husband to both Aunt Joan and Aunt Karen. You loved with all your heart and you cleaved to each of them and to nothing else. You gave great honor to them and treated them with understanding and care. They were your equal partner in life. You saw them as gods gift from heaven. You loved very deeply and showed it through your actions. You showed honor and cherished them and put them first- the great blessings in your life.
In time you became the patriarch of the SKUTKA family. You played many significant roles over the years. We will always remember those days at the cottage. Those special moments when we all gathered together. You watched all of us grow up and played your funny jokes on us- like the piranha in the lake. Those were very special times. You are bigger than life with that great personality of yours. You were a man of sincerity and genuine integrity. You were loving in all things. You lived life as god instructed us- love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this to lay down ones life for his friends . Although we say goodbye in this life we soon will be reunited in heaven. I Love You- And I’m so glad I got to call you Uncle. From your nephew Douglas Skutka

No matter who you were, Tom made you feel like you were his best friend. He filled a hole after my father died, and I am proud that he was my step-father. Though he will be sorely missed, he will always be loved and remembered. No doubt, he is running again!

who we are:
Tuttle Funeral home was designed as a funeral home by funeral home architects and designers. Unllike many funeral homes that were originally old homes and then were converted into funeral homes.
Though it was designed as a funeral home, it still provides the warm comforting feeling of a home, but with more space and an open feeling.
