Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Allan Wallace, 72, of Denville NJ, son of Margaret and Woodrow (Jim) Wallace, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on September 9, 1947 in Paterson, NJ and resided in the Intervale section of Parsippany, NJ for 34 years before becoming a resident of Denville.
John served in the US Army. He received his Bachelor of Science from Seton Hall University, and two Master’s Degrees from William Paterson University in History and Education Administration. For 43 years, John worked as an educator for the Passaic Valley Board of Education. During his tenure, he served in various roles from teacher to coach to Student Activities Director to principal. As the director of Student Activities, he oversaw both academic and athletic programs and attended virtually every event the school had. He spoke at the Honor Society induction annually, played an instrumental role in the creation of new clubs and activities, was a regular at Literary Nights. When not found in the building, he could be found attending sporting events, and traveled far and wide to support the Hornets, including one of his favorite places, Cooperstown, NY. He is a member of the Passaic Valley Hall of Fame and maintained a lifelong relationship with the Passaic Valley community
John was an avid baseball fan and could recite random facts at will. He was a Yankee season ticket holder, yet also had a soft spot for the NY Mets. He was a competitive tennis player and a member of the Cape May Tennis Club. John had a great sense of humor, ridiculously quick wit, and greatly enjoyed time spent at his home down the shore with his wife, children, and grandchildren. John loved New York City where he and his wife Maryanne would make annual trips at Christmas time to celebrate their anniversary.
He is survived by Maryanne, his wife of 51 years; two daughters Anne Light of Beaumont TX and Maureen Zeman and her husband Paul of Randolph; three grandchildren, Catherine Light John Zeman, and Bridget Light; two sisters Marilyn Steimle of Leesburg, FL and Kathleen Titus of Toms River, NJ and many other loving family members.
