Obituary of Dr. Howard H. Liebermann
Dr. Howard H. Liebermann, 67, of Roxbury passed away on August 22, 2017, following a brave battle with cancer.
Dr. Liebermann was born in Neustadt bei Coburg, Germany to Gerda and Hermann Liebermann in 1949 and emigrated to the United States at the age of five. He settled in New York City where he had fond memories of growing up with his family and friends in Jamaica, Queens. After high school, he went on to attend the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn where he received a B.S. in metallurgy in 1972. From there, Howard advanced to the University of Pennsylvania where he received his M.S. (1975) and Ph.D. (1977) in metallurgy and materials science. He had a successful career in technology, predominantly in the Morris County area, where he published over 80 technical papers and received over 30 patents while working at General Electric, Allied Signal, and Honeywell. He was a lifetime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and other scientific and engineering societies. Howard wrote and edited the materials science textbook Rapidly Solidified Alloys.
At home, he was known as a devoted and supportive husband and father. He had passions for humor and for the classic rock music of the 1960s and 70s, as well as classical music. True to the nature of an engineer, he could fix and/or break almost anything. He will always be remembered for having a sharp mind and a love of wordplay.
Dr. Liebermann is survived by his wife and close companion of 38 years, Lynda Liebermann, his son Dan and his spouse Lauren, his daughter Amanda and her spouse-to-be Joe, his mother Gerda, his sister Alice, as well as his in-laws, nieces, and nephews--all of whom he was very close with.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 25, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with a brief ceremony celebrating his life at 7:00 p.m.at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (tuttlefh.com)
