Obituary of Howard J. Dalrymple

Howard J Dalrymple; 90 – Dancer, Commander.
Passed way November 9th, 2013; Howard was born March 20, 1923.
He was born in Morristown, NJ and grew up in Dover. He moved to Kenvil, NJ in 1952 where he lived for the rest of his years.
He was the son of the late John and Clara Dalrymple.
Howard joined the Navy (Seabees) in 1942. He served in Adak Alaska, in the Aleutians Islands and Okinawa Japan, and received an honorable discharge in 1946.
Howard served as commander of the V.F.W. Post 2833 in Kenvil NJ nine times. He belonged to and held office in the Ever Young Seniors of Roxbury. He was a past senior Vice Commander of district 10 of NJ, and a Past National Deputy Chief of Staff in 1985,
Howard retired from The Picatinny Arsenal in 1977 after working there for 27 ½ years.
Howards’ many hobbies included water skiing at Lake Hopatcong which he last enjoyed in 2004 and on Lake George, and Dancing, which a lot of people knew him for.
Howard was a volunteer at Saint Clare's hospital in Denville 3 days a week for 10 years (he had over 8000 hours there), and had also volunteered in the hospice unit in St Clare's hospital in Dover.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bette (nee Lindsley) Dalrymple after 52 ½ years of marriage. He is survived by his girl friend of many years Orvaletta Thonie of Kenvil and her Son David and Daughter-in-law Christine also of Kenvil; and many nieces nephews.
Viewing will be at the Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 Route 10, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com), on Monday November 11th, 2013 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 12th, 2013, at 10 am followed by burial at the Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover.
