Magnus E. Olsen, Jr., 84, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, formerly of Randolph from 1959 - 2013, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017, at his home, 6 days prior to his 85th birthday. Magnus was born in Brooklyn, NY, and attended Manuel Training HS in Brooklyn where he met his wife. After graduation from Brooklyn College and serving in the US Navy, he worked in the ocean transportation business all his life. He was founder of Overseas Enterprises, Inc., ship agents/owners/operators, from 1963-2001.
He grew up in Norway until 5 years old when he returned to Brooklyn with his parents and two siblings. Magnus ran track and did the pole vault in HS before his parents moved to their summer home in Succasunna, NJ where they were members of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He built his first home in the Mt Fern section of Randolph in 1959 and then moved to the Center Grove section of Randolph in 1976. He enjoyed traveling, investing in the stock market and working in the garden. He was an avid sailor enjoying many passages with his family. He maintained an active lifestyle going to the gym and shopping for champagne on the day he passed.
Magnus is survived by his wife Jean of 62 years, four children, Magnus E. Olsen, III and his wife Heather Brown Olsen of New Canaan, CT, Elizabeth Bate and her husband Andrew Bate of Naples, FL, Rex Olsen and his wife Mimi of Martinsville, NJ and Jonathan Olsen and his partner Sean Frampton of Fort Lauderdale, FL; five grandchildren, Christopher Bate, Jennifer Bate, Harrison Bate, Rex Olsen II, and Bianca Olsen, sister Karla Condon of Randolph and predeceased by his brother Alf Olsen and a large and loving family in the USA and Norway.
Visitation is Saturday, January 28, 2017 11:00-11:30 AM with a memorial service beginning at 11:30 AM at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 East, Randolph, NJ 07869
