Obituary of Joseph P. Rogers

Joseph P. Rogers, Jr. died on Thursday, October 24 th , 2013, following a long illness. He was 95 years old. Joseph was born in Dover, moved to Lower Berkshire Valley, Roxbury Township. He graduated from Roxbury High School and attended Newark College of Engineering where he received a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Joseph worked for over 36 years for the War Department, and the US Air Force at Picatinny Arsenal, where he advanced to the position of Deputy Director for the Technical Support of Arsenal Research and Development. During World War II, he enlisted in the Air Force and became a First Lieutenant and Aerial Navigator. He was assigned to the 20 th Air Force 29 th Bomb Group as a Squadron Lead Navigator. He flew on 35 Bomb Missions against Homeland of Japan and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross three times, the Air Medal four times, the Asiatic Theater Medal with two Battle Stars, the American Theater Medal, and The World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the Dover Elks Club Lodge #182, Dover, the American Legion Post #27, Dover, and a Life Member of the VFW Post #2833, Kenvil. His survivors include his wife Helen of 56 years, his daughter Cynthia, and her husband Daniel White, his son Joseph the 3 rd , and two grandchildren, Daniel and Joseph White. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 27 th , 2013 2-6 PM, at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Rt. 10, Randolph ( www.tuttlefh.com ). Funeral Services will be Monday, October 28 th , 2013, at 10 AM also at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover. In lieu of flowers, donation are requested in his memory to the Morris County ARC, P.O. Box 123, Morris Plains, NJ 07950.
