Obituary of Richard Myles Newman

Richard Myles Newman, 85, of Dover, passed away, following a long illness, Monday, July 11, 2016 at St. Clare’s Hospital, Denville. He was born in Spring Lake and moved to the Bowlbyville section of Dover at the age of 5.
Richard worked as an Assistant Superintendent for NJ Natural Gas, Dover and retired after 29 years.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish, attended Sacred Heart School and went to Dover High School. After retirement he owned R.M. Newman Produce in Dover. He served as an Alderman and as Mayor of Dover for over 25 years. He was also the President of the Bowlby War Memorial Committee. Richard was a life member of VFW Post 07333 of Randolph, The American Legion William Hedges Baker Post 27 of Dover, The Moose Lodge 541 of Dover and the East Dover Social Club.
He is survived by Barbara (nee Lewthwaite), his wife of 60 years; daughter Debra Mantini of VT; two grandchildren Anthony Mantini and Christine Sealey; five great-grandchildren Katherinn, Susan, Gianna, Lilianna and Cecilio. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents Bernard and Elsie Newman and his brothers Patrick, Austin and Joseph.
Visitation Friday, July 15, 2016, 4:00-8:00PM, at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com). Funeral Mass Saturday, July 16, 2016, 9:30AM, at Sacred Heart Parish, Dover. Interment to follow at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover.
