Obituary of Thomas Robert Slack

Thomas Robert Slack, 84, a lifelong resident of Dover, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Compassionate Care Hospice, Saint Clare’s Hospital in Dover. He was born October 16, 1931 to Robert Eugene and Emma Kathleen Slack in Dover, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his first wife Marion Patricia Slack (Griffin), his parents and sister, Betty Lou.
He is survived by his wife Helen (Everett), son Michael and wife Patricia (Veres) from Wharton, his son Bobby and wife Kathleen from Raleigh NC, his step daughter Jill (Everett) and husband Jeff Rossi from Jefferson, step-son Les Everett from Boonton, sister Ginny and husband Karl Miller from Hayes, VA brother William and wife Dorothy Slack from Lake Okeechobee, FL. He had 12 grandchildren…Becky and Tommy Slack, Kelly and husband Eric Sweet, Emily and husband Nicholas Chambers, Patricia and husband Brandon Roberson, Kaitlin Slack, Joseph Slack and step grandchildren Madison and Lydon Brackelmanns, and Joseph, Jordan, Janelle Rossi, one great grandchild Ryan Nicholas Chambers and many nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Dover High School (1949) and was a proud member of the 1948 Dover High School State Championship Football team. He served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1949 to 1952. He was employed at Picatinny Arsenal for 37 years as an engineer retiring in 1987. He was exempt member of Dover Fire Department, served on the Board of Directors at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover Recreation Department board, Dover Housing Authority board, and active in Dover Little League. He was a member of the Wharton United Community Church and served on their Finance Committee. He loved the outdoors and spending time in the woods and on the water with family and friends hunting, fishing and boating.
There will be a visitation at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 Route 10, Randolph, NJ on Wednesday July 6, 2016 from 4:00-8:00PM. There will be a Dover Fireman’s Service at Tuttle Funeral Home on Wednesday July 6, 2016 at 7:30. Services will be held at Wharton United Community Church, 20 Church Street in Wharton on Thursday July 7, 2016 at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers donations to the Wharton United Community Church, 20 Church St, Wharton, NJ 07885 or Andes NY Fire Department, Att. 1st Asst. Chief, P.O. Box 475, Andes, NY 13731.
