Obituary of John Douglas Sherwood

John D. Sherwood, 42, of Randolph, beloved husband of Tracey, devoted father of Nathaniel and Gabriel, treasured son of Lawrence and Patty, much-loved brother of Jennifer (Lewis) Beeman. John was taken suddenly as the result of an accident while skiing, on Monday, April 4, 2016. John, affectionately known as Wood or Woody, was born in Keansburg, on December 9, 1973. He attended St. Ann’s Grammar School, Mater Dei High School, Seton Hall University, and New Jersey Institute of Technology. John was the Director of Systems Development at Prudential Financial in Newark. A dedicated father, John served as Committee Chair and Charter Liaison for Cub Scout Pack #109 as well as coach for his sons’ baseball and sports teams. John leaves behind a legacy of love. In addition to Tracey, Nate, Gabe, his loving parents and sister, John’s life will continue to be celebrated by a multitude of extended family members including his in-laws and beloved nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 13, 2016 from 3 pm – 5 pm and 7pm – 9pm at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 Highway 10, Randolph, (www.tuttlefh.com). Funeral Mass will be at 10 am on Thursday, April 14 at St. Matthew the Apostle, Randolph. Burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Nate and Gabe Sherwood College Fund, P.O. Box 357, Ironia, NJ 07845-0357. In Memoriam: The sad rumor is true, our friend John D. Sherwood is gone. He died doing what he loved most - traveling with his beloved Tracey and sharing the world with his sons Nathaniel and Gabriel, as always, living life to the fullest. It was a collision with another skier that robbed the world of Sweet Johnny. Mr. Sherwood, affectionately known by some as Wood or Woody, was born in Keansburg, New Jersey on December 9, 1973. He attended St. Ann’s Grammar School, Mater Dei High School and Seton Hall University. For work, he was the Director of Systems Development at Prudential Financial in Newark. While one’s occupation often defines a person, and John was undoubtedly a special part of the organization, his true calling in life happened outside of the office. He was as active as can be in the boys’ busy lives, with scouting, sports and, of course, random educational trips to wherever he could think of. He enjoyed dining out with Tracey and his many friends – ending the night was difficult for all of us, but especially so for John, who loved to talk and laugh late into the night. Perhaps more enjoyable for John than eating a fine meal out was preparing that meal alongside of Tracey. John’s specialty was anything wrapped in bacon and infused with cheese. Meals in the Sherwood kitchen were both decadent and delicious and were always accompanied with good drink and even better conversation. Woody was an avid golfer and skier and loved his Yankees and the New York Football Giants. He was a man of unwavering Catholic faith and a patriotic American, very proud of the opportunities that are available to anyone and everyone in this Country. He considered himself blessed to be Born in the U.S.A. With a solid work ethic, integrity, honesty and a genuine smile, John did make the most of himself and struck a balance between work and leisure that we should all envy and aspire towards. John leaves behind a legacy of love. In addition to Tracey, Nate and Gabe, left behind to celebrate John's life and cherish his memory are his loving parents, Lawrence and Patty, his sister Jennifer Beeman, his extended family including Kim, Karen, Suzie, Larry, Lewis, Terry and Katie, as well as many nieces, nephews and Godchildren. His circle of friends was an ever-expanding group that was never too large nor too crowded. The inner circle has lost its nucleus but is left with an unbreakable bond. Cheers, John. We all love you.
