Donald Alfred Soderlund, 83, of Wharton, passed away suddenly, Friday, February 19th,2016 at Saint Clare's Hospital, Denville. Donald was born in Dunellen and has been a resident of Wharton since 1996. He formerly resided in North Plainfield.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He worked as a Technical Analyst at IBM, Poughkeepsie, NY and retired in 1988 after 33 years.
He was a 36 year member of F.&A.M., Atlas Pythagoras Lodge #10 Westfield where he was a Past Master and the Acacia Lodge #20 of Dover; a 32nd Degree Master Mason with Scottish Rite, Central Valley. He was a member of the Salaam Shriners, Past Pharoah of Sciots and Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Pearl Chapter, Dover. He was a P.R.P. of Arbor Vitae Court #40 Order of the Amaranth, Past Grand Royal Patron of the Grand Court of New Jersey, Order of the Amaranth from 1996 - 1997 and 2006 - 2007. He was also a member of Vasa Park in Budd Lake, and a Boy Scout Leader.
Survived by Lila, his wife of 19 years; 2 children Kim Ellen House and her husband Andrew of La Mesa, CA and Kirk Donald Soderlund and his wife Carol of Charlottesville, VA; 3 stepsons Joseph C. Kelly Jr. of Byram Township, Benjamin S. Steiner IV and his finance Blanca Sanchez of Longview, TX and William A. Steiner and his girlfriend Jessica Ropke of Grahamsville, NY. Also survived by 6 grandsons Ryan, Jack, Joseph, Jack, Wyatt, and Vaughn; 2 brothers Kenneth Soderlund and wife Joan of Charlottesville, VA and Theodore Soderlund and his wife Susan of Charleston, SC and his sister-in-law Rose Soderlund of Goose Creek, SC and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Oscar and Elvera Soderlund, his brother David and his first wife of 40 years Shirley Mae Soderlund.
Visitation and Memorial Service Saturday, February 27, 2016, 10:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Stanhope, 100 Main Street, Stanhope.
