Obituary of Barbara Lay
Barbara Lay, 99, of Dover, NJ, passed away on December 14, 2024, at Merry Heart in Succasunna. Born on November 4, 1925, in La Habana, Cuba, she was the daughter of Antonio Cuon y Chuang and Carmen Morales y Pardo. She was married to Fabian Rafael Lay, and together they had a son, Rafael Antonio Lay.
Barbara was known for her strong work ethic and dedication throughout her life. She attended the University of Habana, where she earned a degree to become a Home Economics Teacher. After moving to the United States, Barbara’s education and skills became the foundation of many of her passions. In her free time, she could often be found sewing, crafting, and cooking. Barbara's sewing talents were especially remarkable, as she created beautiful clothing for her daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Before retiring, Barbara worked at Howmet Aerospace in the Austenal Microcasting Division as a Metal Casing Inspector.
Barbara is survived by her beloved son, Rafael Antonio Lay, and his wife, Margaret Mary Lay; her cherished grandchildren, Patrick Gerard Lay and Erin Margaret Lay, all of Fanwood, New Jersey. She is also survived by her two sisters, Dalia Wong of Treasure Island, Florida, and Rosa Perez of Miami, Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews: Cary Dixon, Angela Perez, Flor Poidomani, Lucrecia Cuon, Gerardo Cuon, Antonio Cuon, and Juanchi Cuon.
She is predeceased by her devoted husband, Fabian Rafael Lay, who passed away in 2005.
Barbara will be remembered for her love of family, her creativity, and the dedication with which she lived her life.
