I got into the water business because of Mark. I was working at a hardware store with Marks stepmothers aunt and she said "you should get a job where my nephew works". With her assistance, I did. Mark and I attended beginner and advanced water classes together and became friends. We both attained licenses and worked our way up to be operators and continued working together for 28 years. We did a lot of work we were proud of; one of the great things about working with Mark was, he would work as hard as you were willing to. We also had a lot of laughs. I've never laughed as hard as we did when we found and played a Speed Racer video game on the computer. I'm sure it sounds stupid but we were in tears. We also shared a love of Star Trek. I've written myself notes about Star Trek that I wanted to bring up the next time we spoke because I knew he would care about Star Trek minutiae as much as I did. Just last week I noticed that Data was left handed and felt immediately saddened that I can't talk to Mark about it. Mark was opinionated, passionate, smart, had a great memory and was a tremendous asset to whomever was fortunate enough to employ him. He was a good friend and a good man. He will be missed. Rest in peace my friend.

My time knowing Mark was very short, however, in the short time we met as colleagues at Agra I got to share many sweet conversations with him. Mark was a very educated man who knew the water industry like the back of his hand. I would always look forward to Mark stopping by in the lab to catch a quick conversation. This man knew cars and engines like no other. I'm a fellow car enthusiast and anytime I saw an exotic car on the road I would try and snap a picture to show it to Mark. I remember seeing what I had thought was a Road Runner on my way home, and I couldn't wait to show Mark on his next visit. The next week when he stopped in, I excitedly showed him the picture and he gave me the exact trim and model of what I know knew was a 1970 Plymouth Super Bird (and every engine configuration). Fly high Mark!

I have known Mark for over 30 years through the drinking water business. I am the current owner of Agra Environmental and Lab Services and we had the honor of employing him since 2014 to operate water systems throughout NJ. Being an operator is a challenging job and Mark was always up to the challenge lending his expertise to turn around troubled water systems with grace and dignity. He was an extremely intelligent person who was always willing to share his knowledge with the operator community, contributions that cannot be matched. He was named Operator of the Year by the AWWA-NJ which is an honor and a huge achievement. He was a kind soul who always had a kind word for everyone. He was loved by his fellow Agranauts and every student that he ever made contact with over the years, which is thousands and too numerus to count! Our last conversation was him making one simple request, "please get me another Agra shirt" because he was proud to be a part of teh Agra family.
We will miss you and your contributions to providing safe water for many of our residents in NJ. RIP my friend and we will see you down the road!!

Mark was my friend for 30 years. I met him through the North Jersey Water Conference. He was so knowledgeable about the industry and he always was eager to share his knowledge. When I moved in 2008, we kept in touch. He would send early morning texts to me on his way to work that always made me smile. We had great talks about antique cars, NCIS, Atlantic City, traveling the N.J. highways, politics, acquaintances from NJWC, our fathers and our families. We talked about the moments that made us proud, the ones that were hard and disappointing and our regrets and dreams. He loved his adventures with his buddies to the car shows. Although I never met his son or daughter, I felt like I knew them. I would hear about his visits to California, his son's promotion last year (he was so proud), holiday dinners at his sister's and the yearly Hess truck offer at Christmas. When I traveled up in 2016, we went to his favorite diner for dinner and we had such a great time. He was always so supportive and encouraging. I will miss Mark so, so much. I will miss our talks and our texts. My condolences to the family. Mary Ann Kotlarich
