John (Jack) Robert Hansell ,83, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, January 29, 2016. Jack was born in Scranton, PA, grew up in Dover and resided in the Lake Shawnee section of Jefferson Twp. for the last 30 years. He was a Tool and Die Maker at Picatinny Arsenal in Dover for many years.
Jack was one of the "Chosin Few". The Chosin Few represent the Marines at the battle of the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. This was an epic battle, during freezing weather and in harsh terrain, where the vastly outnumbered Marines fought their way from the Chosin Reservoir to the Sea of Japan against Chinese and North Korean forces. Jack was a Purple Heart recipient and a member of the USMC, Second Battalion, 5th Marines, Dog Company.
He is survived by his children, Karl John Hansell of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Kim M. Hansell of Rockaway, Kirsten "Kissy" Hansell Sossin of Denville, Lisa Hansell Kuschke of Randolph, survived by Seven Grandchildren, Brianne, Lauren, Michael, Taylor, Nicholas, Samantha, Brittnie, survived by Five Great-Grandchildren, Mekayla, Aliyah, Johannah, Jackson, Ariana, survived by his sister Janet Dyson of Wharton, predeceased by his parents Joseph and Beatrice and his brother, Richard and sister, Dorothy.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February, 3, 2016 from 7-9PM at Tuttle Funeral Home in Randolph. www.Tuttlefh.com . The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 10:00am at St. Cecilia Church, 90 Church St., Rockaway. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover.
