Obituary of Walter Richard Adler

Walter Richard Adler, age 91, Dover, passed away January 24, 2016 at Merry Heart Nursing Home, Succasunna. He was born in Dover on November 24, 1924. After attending Dover High School, he enlisted in the US Navy in 1943. He served on the USS Ticonderoga as a radar operator in the Pacific Theater during WWII where he survived two Kamikaze attacks. He received the American Theater Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal and the Victory Medal and was honorably discharged March, 1946.
For most of his life he worked as a butcher, a trade handed down from his father and grandfather. He also had a successful business know as Eagle T’s selling personalized tee shirts and hats.
He loved animals, always had many pets and a backyard full of wildlife. Friends and family remember his many fun picnics and his knack for joke telling. He also enjoyed working with model trains and had a large display that he loved to show everyone.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 27, Dover and the VFW, Kenvil. He belonged to Sacred Heart Church, Dover.
He was predeceased by his parents Max Arno and Mina (Zschack) Adler of Dover.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Margarette C. Adler, children: Walter Jr. of Madison, Pamela and husband Christopher Ringel of Easton, PA, Mark and wife Debbie of Tiverton, RI and Margie and husband Mark Kelly of Columbia, also seven grandchildren Michelle, Dustin, Jesse, Zac, Kyle, Kevin and Elizabeth; and five great-grandchildren who love and will miss him.
