Obituary of Winfred T Watson Jr
Winfred T Watson, Jr. (Ted) passed away on February 1, 2024, at the age of 96. He was a resident of Flanders for 60 years.
Ted was born in Englewood to the late Winfred T Waston and Jean Mirras (nee Wahl). In his youth, he developed a love of golf. He caddied with the ’24 US Open Champ, Cyril Walker who was the pro at Englewood Golf Club, where he learned the tricks of the trade. He served in the Merchant Marines and in the US Navy (USS Timmerman) during the Korean War. While in the service stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, he met the love of his life (the late Victoria Watson, nee Genovese) at an Arthur Murray Studio. He stepped on a few toes, but she married him anyway.
Ted started a family and made sacrifices returning to school, working by day, and studying by night to provide the best life for them. He received his BS in Mechanical engineering at Fairleigh Dickinson U. Before retirement, he worked at Picatinny Arsenal in the R & D tank munitions department. He received a Value Engineering Award for outstanding performance as Project Manager in 1990 for a patent entitled Projectile Tail Cone. He played golf into his late nineties at Picatinny and Lake Venice Golf Club, Florida.
Ted is predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Victoria Watson and his son, Theodore G Watson. He is survived by his daughter, Virginia Watson, his first cousins, Lillian White (Harry), Shirley Orbach (late Shawn), Walter Wahl (Brenda), his half-sister, Judy Waldrop and many nieces and nephews from the Genovese family. His love for his family was special and he will truly be missed.
