Obituary of Marilyn A Marxen

Please share a memory of Marilyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On Monday, September 18, 2023, Marilyn Adell Marxen peacefully passed away at the age of 91. She was a loving widow and devoted mother of two children.

Marilyn was born on June 16, 1932, in St. Louis, Missouri, to her parents, David and Florence Martin. Her thirst for knowledge led her to attend a variety of courses at Washington University, ranging from advertising and interior design to marketing, psychology, and writing. Throughout her life, she pursued diverse career paths, working as a print model, executive assistant, and later as a tour guide in Colonial Williamsburg.

In 1957, Marilyn married Merle Marxen, and together they raised their two children in Williamsburg, VA, and Charlotte, NC. Later in life, Marilyn and Merle settled in Raleigh, NC, where she resided until early 2023 when she moved to New Jersey to be closer to her family. Marilyn is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Terri Marxen, her daughter and son-in-law, Wendy Marxen and Jack Fussell, her sister, Virginia Hillebrand, two granddaughters, Lindsey and Dana Marxen, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was known for her voracious love of reading and her prowess in Jeopardy and Trivial Pursuit. She loved to share her delicious brownies and banana bread and possessed a wickedly funny sense of humor, which she shared only with her family and closest friends.

A private family service will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that Marilyn be remembered by purchasing and reading a hard-covered book in her memory and passing it along to friends and neighbors as a gesture of remembrance for the love of literature she held dear.  Arrangements by Tuttle Funeral Home, Randolph.
