Obituary of Judith Ann Tolson

Please share a memory of Judith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Judith "Judi" Ann Tolson, 85 years of age, passed away on June 27, 2023, at Morristown Memorial Hospital in New Jersey. She was the daughter of Dorothea and Alfred Tolson.

Judi attended Northern Valley High School in Demarest, NJ and was an "A" student, varsity cheerleader, on the basketball team and queen of her senior prom. She went on to attend Katherine Gibbs, FIT, New School of Film Making, and the New York Culinary Institute for food styling. Judi spent her career in NYC working a variety of professions including Executive Secretary for several C-suite executives including Volvo, Decimus Corporation and Tozzini Tile and a Photographers Representative for Gary Bernstein and Peter Synder. She retired after working 12 years at her favorite store, Bergdorf Goodman on 5th Avenue, in the table linens department. After her retirement, Judi moved to Cape Coral, FL to oversee her mother’s care and then chose to remain in Florida for the next 15 years.

Judi loved all animals, owning many Siamese cats over the years. Her cats (Lulu, Mishi, TiLu, Mr. Fu) were the loves of her life and her faithful companions. She supported cat sanctuaries and adopting pets from no-kill shelters in FL and NY.

The first half of Judi’s life was rich, she enjoyed music, theater, arts, museums, antiques, cooking and fine dining in NYC. Her stories include getting styled to go to Studio 54 back in 70’s with her designer friends and traveling to Europe and Canada.  Sadly, mental health issues kept her from doing the things she loved in her later years.

In June of 2022, she moved to a memory care home in New Jersey closer to family.

She is survived by her loving sisters Gail Tolson Crothers of Fredon/Stanhope, and Carol Diane (Dee) Tolson of Tucson, AZ. She was pre-deceased by her parents and her brother-in-law, Jeffrey Crothers. She also leaves behind her caring niece Laura Crothers Osborn of Randolph, and nephew Keith Crothers of Fredon. Judi is also survived by: Kasey Crothers, Shane Crothers, Kate Crothers, and Chloe Crothers of Hamburg; Miranda Crothers of Jefferson Township, PA; Stephen Osborn of Salt Lake City, UT, Patrick Osborn of Randolph, and Glenn Osborn of Wharton.

The family wishes to thank Visiting Angels of Cape Coral FL who cared for Judi for 7 years and more recently the staff at Brightview Wellspring Village in NJ.  Her many caregivers included Adela, Karen, Patti, and Daniel who were devoted, loving, and special to Judi and the family. We would also like to thank her very dear friend from high school, Penny Trusty, who has kept in touch for over 70 years, calling, caring, and sending many loving cards and notes.

Judi is at peace now, no longer suffering and in a better place with her Lord. We will miss her deeply and have many fond memories.

In memory of Judi, a donation can be made in her honor to any local no-kill animal shelter in your community, Alzheimer’s Association https://act.alz.org/  or the Hospice Foundation of America https://hospicefoundation.org/.
