Obituary of Florence M Woomer

Florence Woomer of Rockaway Township passed away peacefully at St. Clare’s Hospital Denville on June 21st in the presence of family at 90 years old. She was born in Glen Ridge to Ralph and Kathleen Ricciardi (Degnan) and raised in Bloomfield where she graduated from Bloomfield High School class of 1951 where among other involvements, she was a member of the A Cappella choir. She married David Woomer on November 28th, 1953, at Our Lady of All Souls Church in East Orange. They lived in Orange and Newark before moving back to Bloomfield to raise her family in the house she was raised in (her grandmothers). A devout catholic, at Our Lady of All Souls she sang in the choir and was involved in the Scouting program where she was a den mother for the cub scouts. They moved to Rockaway Township in February of 1968 where she lived in the same house (55+years) until the time of her death. She joined St. Clement Pope and Martyr church before there was even a brick-and-mortar church building. Among her many involvements at the church, she was a member of the choir. She graduated from Kean College (now Kean University) in 1976 earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She worked for the Rockaway Township Board of Education for over 20 years and taught 2nd grade at Birchwood School. She was a member of the College Club of Dover and a long-time bowler at Rockaway Lanes. She was a member of the Rockaway Township Seniors Club and coached Rockaway Township Girls Softball. She volunteered at Dover General Hospital in the Gift Shop. For the past 60 years she enjoyed summers at the Jersey shore at her generational shore house in Sunset Manor Lavallette next to her sister’s house. She was predeceased by her husband of 58+ years David (2012) and her parents Ralph and Kathleen. She was also predeceased by her daughter Susan. She is survived by sons Michael (Dr. Fay) and Stephen. Grandchildren Dr. Susan, Lisa, Jonathan, Andrew and Abigail Woomer and her 4-legged “daughter” Honey. She is also survived by a sister Kathleen French. Donations in her name can be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, The College Club of Dover, the Humane Society, St. Hubert’s or any charity of your choice in her name.

 A viewing will be held Wednesday June 28th from 4pm-8pm at Tuttle Funeral Home 272 Highway 10 (west) Randolph NJ 07869.

 A mass will be held Thursday June 29th 10am at St. Clement Pope and Martyr church 154 Mt. Pleasant Avenue (Rockaway Twp.) Dover NJ 07801.

 Burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery 225 Ridgedale Ave. East Hanover NJ 07936.
