Obituary of Olga P. Wood
Olga P. Wood, 92, of Allamuchy, NJ passed on to her eternal glory on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Colonial Manor, Allamuchy. She was born and raised in the Mt. Hope section of Rockaway, NJ to the late George and Emma Polyak.
Olga met the love of her life, LeRoy K. Wood and they were married on Oct. 30, 1949. They were married for 34 happy years. They raised their family in Dover and Olga worked for Western Union for several years and then the Town of Dover, retiring after 24 years, and was the Town Board of Health Registrar the last several years of her employment there.
She enjoyed being with her family and friends, playing cards with the gals, and traveling. She especially loved cooking recipes from her Russian and Hungarian heritage and passing those on to her daughters and granddaughters. A tradition she started when her children were young was the art of Pysanky, every year on Good Friday the family gathered at Baba’s (Olga’s grandmother name) as she taught the family and many of their friends this art. The tradition is still carried on through her grandchildren.
She is survived by her 3 children: Linda M. Darrow of NC, David L. Wood and his wife Christine of SC, and Desirée L Cougle and her husband Glenn of Independence, NJ; her beloved grandchildren Tanya Breslin, Jason Darrow, Tara Palmer, Emmalee Hedlund, Erik Cougle, Chantelle Wood and Cadena Smart, and her 11 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her wonderful caretakers at Colonial Manor in Allamuchy, NJ who loved and cared for her unconditionally for the past 5 years.
She is predeceased by her husband LeRoy in 1983, her parents, sisters Mary Zilensky and Johanna Homentosky and a brother, George Polyak, Jr.
