Obituary of Sarah Ziegler

Sarah “Sylvia” Ziegler former Principal of the Birchwood Elementary School in Rockaway Township, NJ has passed away on December 21, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer for 2 years. Adored wife of her late husband Murray, beloved and devoted mother of Philip and wife Lauren, Arthur and wife Jacquelyn and Brenda. Proud Grandmother of David, Danielle, Mickey, Stephen and Ariel. Sylvia ‘s passion in life was educating children and taking pride in children’s academic as well as social growth. Always the first one to help others Sylvia had a clear direction of how she wanted to make a contribution to this world. She attended Hunter College where she earned both her undergraduate degree in Sociology and her Master’s degree in Special Education for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. She furthered her education at Seton Hall University where she obtained a Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision and was also enrolled in their doctoral program for Educational Leadership. Sylvia founded the nursery school in WML. She then dedicated her life and pursued her passion at Rockaway Township School System, first as a 6th Grade Teacher at Stony Brook School for 11 years and then as the Birchwood School Principal for 31 years. She was honored as Rockaway Township’s Citizen of the Year for her contributions in the community to help children. She was an active member in the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Morris County Elementary and Middle School Administrators and the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association. Sylvia’s loving manner to all who knew her will be greatly missed by her immediate family, her extended Birchwood family and her friends. Visitation will be today, Tuesday, December 22, 2015, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com). Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Freedom Hebrew Cemetery, Randolph.
