Obituary of Henrietta Lee

Please share a memory of Henrietta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Henrietta Lee grew up in Union and she graduated from Newark State College (now Kean University) in 1964.  From the 1960's and 1970's years of social unrest, she had a mission, a sense of purpose.

Poverty, racism and injustice steered her professional work to include case management; police community relations; program planning, the latter in the Philadelphia Anti Poverty Program.  The most challenging position Ms. Lee took was as the first Executive Director of the Edison Sheltered Workshop.  Ms. Lee led board and staff to achieving national accreditation as a vocational rehabilitation program, accomplished in five years.

Capping her professional accomplishments, Ms. Lee worked for 22 years with aged and disabled residents of Essex County providing home care as well as assisted living supervision.

Ms. Lee was predeceased by her beloved James Mattis, her son; Allen and parents, Minnie and Milton levenbaum.
