Attention: The Funeral Service for Mrs. Gruber has been changed from 1PM to 1:30PM, the visitation will be from 12noon to 1:30PM Betty Gruber (nee Friedman) died peacefully at her home in Coconut Creek, Florida on November 11, 2015. She was the beloved mother of Ellen Schultz, Mark (Sharon) Gruber,and Robert (Harriet) Gruber and grandmother to Carrie (Josh), Darren, Sara, Dara and Hali.Betty was also the loving Aunt of John Eiseman, Michael Eiseman, Ricky Eiseman, Peter (Madeline) Gruber, Wendy (Rick) Klein, Michael (Laryssa) Gruber, and Kathy (Gary) Sharpless. Betty was born in New York City, New York on May 18, 1925 to a large and loving family which consisted of her best friend and sister, Ruth Eiseman (nee Friedman); her family thenmoved to Far Rockaway, New York where she lived and grew up until moving to New Jersey. After World War II, Betty married Bernard Gruber and they lived in Dover, NJ. Bernard and his brothers ran Dover Handbag, a successful handbag manufacturing business. It was during this time that Betty and Bernard started a family along side of Bernard’s brother, Jessie Gruber and his Wife, Alice Gruber. Alice and Betty became not just sister’s-in-law, but best friends as well. The Gruber’s decided to purchase homes near each other on Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey and it was here where the Gruber’s settled in to raise their families. During her life, Betty became very active in the Dover Jewish Center where she held administrative and social positions, organizing talent shows and fundraisers. She worked as an administrative assistant for the Randolph, NJ public school system. Betty became a dynamic and adored member of the Garden State Yacht Club in Hopatcong, New Jersey, and was a first mate to her Husband when he became Commodore. After their retirement Betty and Bernie moved to Coconut Creek, FL, and settled into the Wynmoor community. In true Betty style, she immersed herself in activities and made all kinds of long time friends along the way, while always keeping true to her roots, her family and friendships from Far Rockaway, NY. Betty loved to play cards and was a whiz at Canasta winning many tournaments to the chagrin of her opponents. Betty’s personality, smile, kind heart, and humor emanated from her every day; she was known by her family as the ‘Queen B’. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, November 13, 2015, between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm at her home in Wynmoor, Coconut Creek, Florida. The funeral will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2015, at Tuttles Funeral Home, 272 Route 10, Randolph, NJ 07869 commencing at 1:30PM with a visitation from 12:00PM to 1:30PM. Interment will follow at the Dover Mount Sinai Cemetery . The family will be sitting Shiva at the home of her son Mark Gruber and daughter- in -law, Sharon Gruber’s home on Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey, on Sunday November 15, 2015,from 6 pm to 9 pm.
