Valerie Muenzel passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Morristown Medical Center, NJ. She was 72 years old. There will be a Memorial Mass on Thursday, November 12, 2015, 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Parish, 4 Richards Avenue, Dover, NJ 07801. Born in New York, NY to her parents, August and Angela Landry, Valerie resided in Ledgewood before moving to Mt. Arlington. She graduated high school from the Villa Maria Academy in the Bronx and received her undergraduate degree from Hunter College in NYC. Mrs. Muenzel was an elementary school teacher in the Wharton School District for many years, retiring after 32 years. She was an active member of PTA, Wharton Education Association and the New Jersey Education Association. After teaching, Valerie devoted her life as a Medical Advocate passionately volunteering her support for those afflicted with cancer. Additionally, she was an avid Bridge enthusiast. She also enjoyed traveling. Valerie is survived by her loving sister, Ms. Monica Landry of Ledgewood, NJ and her longtime companion, Gene O'Brien of West Windsor, NJ as well as many friends. She is predeceased by her parents. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to either The American Cancer Society, Eastern Division Inc.
