Obituary of Ann Alteio

Please share a memory of Ann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Ann Alteio, loving mother grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on November 11, 2021.

Born in August 1939 to James and Frances Flynn in Queens New York, Ann immediately brought joy into the world. From a young age, her dreams of nursing propelled Ann through high school and graduation from Kings County Nursing School and into a lifelong career.

At 16 she met the love of her life and the only man she would ever kiss, John Alteio. Inseparable from that point on, the duo made each other their home as they traveled the states and toured the back roads. Over the years they added three children to the adventure and back row of the station wagon, Christine, John, and Marc.

As a woman of strong faith, Ann became a lay minister and shared her time with various charitable organizations. In quieter moments she could be found cozy with a book or watching the bright red cardinals dart about outside. Ann liked her fun as well, having enjoyed hosting many a dinner party and friendly games of scrabble, farkle, and rummikub among friends. She was a worthy Jeopardy opponent, even if she only ever participated as a couch contestant.

In the three years since Ann moved back to New Jersey to be closer to family, she built another one. Ann took an active role in her new community, particularly in the trivia sector, and became an ambassador to new residents. Family, of any kind, always came first to Ann. While her values have been instilled in those around her, the hole left by her absence is impossible to fill.

Ann was predeceased by her loving husband, mother, father, and sister Judy Olenik. She is survived by her three children and her wonderful grandchildren, Jessica, Megan, Katie, Sarah, Holden and Francesca.

A memorial service will take place on Monday, November 22, 2021, from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Tuttle Funeral Home, Randolph (tuttlefh.com). A funeral mass will follow at Resurrection Parish in Randolph at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, offer to have a cup of tea with a loved one, a friend or someone new. Ann would love that, she always made friends over a cup.
