Louis G. Mizzoni, 95, of Rockaway Twp., passed away Saturday, October 24th, 2015, at St. Clare's Hospital, Denville surrounded by his loving family.
Louis was born, November 26th, 1919 in Dover. He graduated Dover High School in 1937, and trained as a Tool & Dye Maker at Picatinny Arsenal, Wharton, before serving in the US Army from 1943 to 1946. He attended Stevens Institute of Technology, then worked at Reaction Motors in Denville, where he met his future bride. He returned to Picatinny Arsenal where he worked as an Engineering Technician shop foreman for 35 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a long time usher, trustee, and finance committee member at Sacred Heart Church in Dover. There he was instrumental in starting bingo games in the parish as a major source of funding for Sacred Heart School. He remained on the Bingo Committee for 35 years. He was a board member of NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees.) He was also a member of the Dover American Legion Post 27.
He loved playing softball in his youth and bowled in local leagues for many years. He was an avid Yankee fan, loved gardening, was a gourmet cook, and organized many spaghetti dinner fundraisers for Sacred Heart and the local PBA.
Louis is predeceased by his parents Archangelo and Jennie Mizzoni, and sisters Rose and Clara. He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth (nee Roessler), daughter LuAnn Mizzoni and partner Douglas Elkins of Robbinsville, and his sister Rita of Dover. He also leaves behind his dear cousins.
Visitation Wednesday, October 28th, 2015, 4:00-8:00PM, Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com). Funeral Mass Thursday, October 29th, 2015, 10:00AM, Sacred Heart Church, Dover. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Wharton.
