Obituary of Barbara J. Cottrill
Barbara Joan Cottrill, age 85, peacefully left her home to journey to Heaven on September 10, 2021 after living with dementia for many years.
Barbara was born on September 3, 1936, in Tunnelton, West Virginia, daughter of the late Ernest Paul Cottrill and Audrey G. Cottrill. She was raised in Mine Hill NJ and graduated with the class of 1954 at Dover High School. After graduating she worked at Newberry’s and Acme Grocery store in Dover as a bookkeeper and then attended college at Northeastern in NJ. As soon as she could afford a used car, she and two girlfriends enjoyed a six week adventure touring the United States. Thus began her lifelong love of travel. Barbara was employed as an Office Manager at Roxbury Chrysler Plymouth Dealership for 25 years before retiring in 2005. She was devoted in her faith in God and persevered in sharing of the message with others of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ and repenting of your sins. Barbara was a member of Faith Family Fellowship Church in Rockaway.
Barbara was always there for anyone that had a need. Devoted to family. Was an Aunt to many, with a loving heart and a mother to all. She spent summers as a missionary in Mexico and on Indian reservations in Montana. Upon retiring she took a summer and went to Honduras in Central America as a missionary. When living in Cape Cod, Massachusetts she fostered 3 children and worked at Camp Good News.
Barbara is survived by her brother Ernest Lee Cottrill and sister-in-law Joanna Marston of Warren NJ. Aunt Barbara will be truly missed by her nieces and nephews - Linda Cottrill Tremain of Richfield Springs, NY, Julia Waddell of Florida, Linda Lee Cottrill of California, Ernest G. Cottrill and his wife Linda of Michigan. She is also survived by 5 great nieces, 2 great nephews, 8 great, great nieces and 2 great, great nephews, 1 great, great, great niece and 2 great, great, great nephews. Barbara was predeceased by her brother Frederic Allen Cottrill and her nephew Daniel Cottrill.
Barbara was a mother to her nephew Fred Cottrill who loved her as his mother. Fred and his wife Alexandra were dedicated to the care of her over the years but especially in these last years. Their son Fred Jr cherished his Nana.
A Memorial Service will be held at Faith Family Fellowship Baptist Church of Rockaway, 126 Mt Pleasant Ave, Dover, NJ 07801 on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11:00AM.
