Obituary of Dorothy E Mathews
Dorothy E. Mathews 86, passed away on April 20, 2021 at St. Clare’s Hospice in Dover. She was born in Manhattan and raised in Bronx, NY. Dorothy was a graduate of Aquinas High School. She was a Secretary for Morris Knolls High School in Denville, an Executive Secretary for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and then a Switch Board Operator for New York Bell Telephone Company. Dorothy was also a telephone operator for the Playboy Club in Vernon, NJ.
Dorothy has a wonderful sense of humor and her laughter was contagious. She was a woman of deep faith. Affectionately known to her grandchildren as Nanny. She passed away surrounded by her children. A kind and loving woman, Dorothy continued to display her grace of gratitude in her final days by frequently saying Thank You, I love you and God Bless you, to everyone around her. She will be deeply missed by all.
She is survived by her 5 children; William Curtin Jr. and his wife Cydnee of Long Beach Island, Elizabeth Poltersdorf and Thomas of PA; Donna LaRose and Matt of Vernon, Dorothy Morosoff and Mark of Vernon, Theresa Curtin of Dover, her grandchildren; Jennifer Goldsmith, Mathew Curtin, Kerri McBride, Thomas Poltersdorf Jr. William Poltersdorf, Mathew LaRose Jr., Antonia LaRose, Mark Morosoff, Max Morosoff, Jonathan Curtin, and Cory Curtin and 9 Great grandchildren. She is also survived by her cousin Thelma McCabe of Randolph, her nephew and niece and cousins and her dog Daisy. Dorothy is predeceased by her first husband of 30 years, William Joseph Curtin, her brother John O’Connell, and her sister Florence O’Shaughnessy and Dorothy’s second husband Douglas Mathews.
Visitation 11:00 – 12:00 PM Friday, April 23, 2021, at St. Clements Pope and Martyr Church 154 Mt Pleasant Ave, Rockaway, with a funeral service at 12:00 PM.
