Saturday August 8th, 2009 10:00 A.M. Service Mr. P. R. Thampi, 84, of Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia passed away suddenly Tuesday, August 4th, 2009 at his daughter's residence in Flanders. Resident of Flanders, NJ and Malaysia. Mr. Thampi was born in India. He was a Teacher at St. Thomas's School in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia and retired in 1980 after 25 years. He was a pioneer in helping establish the education system and science curriculum in Sarawak, Malaysia. Founding member of Sarawak Teachers Union, Malaysia. An Industrial Chemist at Iron and Steel Foundry, Mysore, India. He was an academic. He taught at these various places, Christian Medical College, Vellore, India; St. Joseph's High School, Naranamoozhi, Kerala, India; University of Mandalay, Burma (Myanmar); St. Thomas's Secondary School, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia (1957 - 1980). and at the Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (UPM), 1981-1984) Kota Samarahan, Sarawak, Malaysia Survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Sosamma; two sons Mohan of Naples, FL and Rajan of Denver, CO, two daughters Usha Thampi-Lukose of Flanders and Sujatha Thampi of Alexandria, VA. Also survived by four grandchildren Rohan, Anissa, Ashwin, and Nikhil and his sister Santha Madhavan and brother Rajeshawaran Nair. Funeral Services will be held at Mar Thoma Church, 790 Route 10 West, Randolph, NJ (973-328-7386) at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 8th, 2009. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Chester, NJ. Visitation Friday, August 7, 2009, 4 - 8 p.m. at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com). In lieu of flowers donations are requested to savethechildren.org.
