Evester Foote, departed this life on December 11, 2020 after a short illness at Boonton Care Center in Boonton Township, NJ.

Evester Foote was born August 9, 1937 in Rockhill, South Carolina to the late Gage and Evelyn (Wylie) Foote. Once the family migrated to Boonton, New Jersey he accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Boonton NJ where he maintained active membership until uniting with Calvary Baptist Church of Morristown in 1960. It was at Calvary Baptist church where he sang and directed the James Coleman Gospel Chorus while a faithful member.

Evester will always be remembered for his gift of song; As a youngster, he and his sister Olistine would travel to many churches singing and sharing the good news of the gospel through song. A cherished memory is while worshiping at the First Baptist Church, of Nutley NJ, the James Coleman Gospel chorus was accompanied on the piano by the late Rev. James Cleveland when signing “Peace Be Still”; Evester was a gifted director and singer.

Evester  graduated from Morristown High School in 1955, after which, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. After serving his country, he was honorably discharged and began employment at Warner Lambert in Morris Plains, NJ. While there, he completed the Morris Plains Police Academy and became a Morris Township Police Officer prior to transferring to the Morris County Park Police unit. While employed with the Park Police, Evester proudly earned an AA Degree in Criminal Justice from Morris County Community College in 1989.

Evester was joined in holy matrimony to the late Betty Jean Foote (Weber) on September 12, 1965. Together they traveled and enjoyed life to the fullest.

Uncle Bus, as he was lovingly known by his immediate family members, will be greatly missed. He was genuinely respected and admonished by all who came in contact with him.

Although Uncle Bus’ laughter, joy and zeal for life is no longer present, our memories will linger forever. He leaves to cherish his life 1 brother, Timothy (Susan) Foote, Weymouth, MA, 2 sisters, Mrs. Olistine Davis, Bear, Delaware, Mrs. Anna Rae Jordan, Morristown, NJ., Nieces, nephews, and a host of family and great friends.

“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.”
