Obituary of Tillie A. Quinn
On December 4th, 2020 Tillie Quinn (nee Nawrot) left us at the age of 95 to join her beloved husband Jack in heaven. Tillie was an incredible and compassionate woman who will be missed by the countless number of people whose lives she touched.
Born on November 14, 1925, and raised in Nutley, (NJ) Tillie was the youngest of seven children which could help explain the competitive spirit she displayed throughout her life. Upon graduation from Nutley High School she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse by attending St. Michaels’ School of Nursing in Newark (NJ) Her long career included a stint in the US Army Cadet Corp, private duty nurse, summer camp nurse, and lastly, 25 years as a school nurse in Newark.
Throughout her working career, Tillie persisted in continuing her education resulting in her obtaining her masters degree from Jersey City State College and doctorate equivalency from Kean University. What is even more amazing is she accomplished these feats while raising her six children. Tillie was a long time parishioner at Resurrection Parish and Women of Faith.
On the personal side, Tillie and Jack first met while serving as attendants at a wedding of close friends. This chance meeting would lead to a lifetime together spanning nearly six decades and resulting in a legacy consisting of six children, eighteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Upon her retirement from nursing, Tillie’s “joie de vivre” became evident through her many travel adventures with Jack. Her favorite destinations included a tour of the National Parks, Hawaii, Ireland, and even the Canary Islands.
Tillie was also an animal lover with numerous family pets throughout her life, most notably Sparky (dog) and Queen Victoria (cat). She would also delight in clandestinely feeding her family’s pets “people food” at gatherings much to the dismay of their pets’ owners.
Tillie’s greatest legacy is indeed her family. She leaves behind her children, Patricia and Harry Carline, Diane and Jeffery Gebert, William and Sherry Quinn, Susan McLeod and her fiancée Gary Gaglione, John and Renee Quinn, and Lisa and Steven Morrell. Tillie also displayed joy in the arrival of each and every grandchild and great grandchild. Tillie will be remembered for her love of a good Polka, and how she would celebrate it at all of her children’s weddings.
Viewing will take place at Resurrection Church, 651 Millbrook Ave, Randolph, NJ 07869 on December 14 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm followed by mass. The Mass will be available Virtually on the Resurrection Church website. Burial will be private. The family would appreciate donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.
