Obituary of Mary Ann Campbell

Please share a memory of Mary Ann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Ann Campbell (née: Werdann), long time resident of Dover went to be with the Lord on November 20, 2020, following a short illness. Mary Ann was born in Newark, in 1939, lived in Pine Brook and Caldwell, where she met Vincent W. Campbell. They married on January 17, 1959, and together they raised their six children.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Vincent W; five daughters, Mary Alice Dunn (Charles) of Rockaway Twp, Catherine of Newton, Carolann of Landing, Joan of Rockaway Twp, and Patricia of Frelinghuysen Twp.; 16 grandchildren, Laura, Karin, Leigh, Matthew, AJ, Anndenise, Kurt, Kenneth, Jessica, Christine, Kimberly, Robert, Allyson, Heather, Lauren, and Kaitlyn; 18 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Henry Joseph Werdann, of Florida. She was predeceased by her son, Thomas in 2010; and previously, 6 siblings.

Mary Ann was loving, gentle, selfless, and devoted entirely to her family. She excelled at her most important roles, as wife and full-time mother. She extended the same love and kindness to the neighborhood children, many who also loved her. Once her children were grown, her passion for reading led her to work at and retire from the Dover Public Library.

For many years she was active in Sacred Heart School and Parish. She enjoyed bingo, alone or with her daughters and granddaughters. She looked forward to family vacations on LBI, and especially spending summers with her husband, on  Pocomoonshine Lake in downeast Maine.

Mary Ann will be greatly missed, and remembered as a kind, humble, woman of God. She will be especially missed by her loving husband, Vincent, as they shared a very rare love. It was that love which blessed them with six children, and in turn, their large extended family. She has left a beautiful legacy in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
