Obituary of Carmine Anthony Loffredo

Carmine Anthony Loffredo, 84, of South Orange, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Spring Hills Senior Community, Livingston.

He was born in Newark and received his BA from Montclair State, his Master’s and his Ed.D from Rutgers University. Carmine began his teaching career at Piscataway High School, Piscataway. From there he was instrumental in setting up the history department of the then brand-new Mountain High School in West Orange, as History Department Chairman.  Carmine Also taught Saturday Art classes for years at the Newark Museum, Newark.  He was one of the first hired to set up and organize the new community college that was to become Essex County College. He was an exceptional organizer and was determined to offer continuing education to all of the people of Essex County and fought hard to open the West Essex Extension Center of Essex County College in West Caldwell. He ultimately retired with the title of Dean at Essex County College.
Throughout his career he had also been an adjunct professor at Rutgers,
University, Seton Hall University, Kean College, and The College of Saint Elizabeth.  He was a Special Editor of Education for The Herald Tribune, NY Newspaper (now defunct). He loved to teach and felt it was important as an administrator to keep in touch with the students thus he continued to teach at least one class each semester.

He is survived by his wife Gail of 53 years; children Jeanine Loffredo Doran (husband Patrick) – Randolph, Joseph A Loffredo. (Wife Tanys) - Bloomfield, Julia Loffredo Triebes. (Husband T.Gregory). - Flagstaff, Arizona and James O. Loffredo. – Hackettstown; siblings Ralph Loffredo of NYC and CT, Arlene Loffredo Kearney of Mansfield, NJ. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jenna Doran, Paul Doran, Jane Doran and Andrew Triebes.

He was predeceased by sisters Diane Loffredo Kaiser and Antonia Loffredo Russomano.
