Randolph NJ-Michael (Mieczyslaw) Henry Szynalski died August 16 2015. He was 80 years old, born southeast of Lwow in Poland, town of Nowosielce, now in Ukraine. In February 1940 his whole family was taken prisoner in the war and sent to a Siberian work camp in Russia.
In Russia his mother Stafania (Firlit [maiden name]) and 1-year-old sister Teresa died. Once Russia joined the allied forces, his father Michal Szynalski, joined the Polish Army in Russia and his 4 brothers and sister were accepted to a Polish orphanage. Michael’s father died in the Army in Qizil-Ribat in Iraq in 1943. In the summer of 1942 the orphanage moved from Russia to Persia (now Iran) where his grandmother Rozalia Opalinska died, then moved to India (now Pakistan) fall of 1942 and then to Tanganyika (now Tanzania, Africa) to reside in an orphanage until the war ended. In May 1948, Michael and his brothers and sisters were moved to England where he went to high school and college. He graduated from Borough Polytechnic in London, England, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Michael immigrated to US and lived in Kearny NJ in 1962, became a proud US citizen in 1967, then moved to Randolph New Jersey in 1998. Michael worked as a vessel and Project Engineer for Foster Wheeler Corp for 41 years from June 1960 until he retired in June 2001. Michael’s brother Ted (Tadeusz) died in 1998. He was member of Resurrection R.C. Parish in Randolph and very active in many Polish organizations.
He is survived by his beloved wife Sophia (Zofia) Nee Czenczek; two sons, Alexander of Randolph and Walter of Manapalan, daughter Caroline Sansone of Roxbury, NJ. Two brothers Stanley (Stanislaw) of Scotrun PA and John (Jan) of Union NJ and sister Dr. Hedwig (Jadwiga) Kasprzak of Columbia Missouri. Daughter-in-laws Monique and Stacy, son-in-law Joseph, and six grandchildren: Michael, Ryelle, Hunter, Bethany, Henry and Anthony, Three sister-in-laws, one brother-in-law, 19 nephews and nieces and his wife’s family in Calgary Canada.
Visitation Wednesday, August 19, 2015, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com). Funeral Mass Thursday, August 20, 2015, 10:00 AM at Resurrection Parish, Randolph. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Chapel Mausoleum, East Hanover.
