George Kavalos
1948-2020
George Kavalos 71, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2020 with his wife and daughters in their home in Flanders, NJ. George was born on the island of Crete in Greece on April 27th, 1948 in the village of Honos. He was enlisted in the Greek Navy from 1966 until 1968. He came to the United States in 1971 with nothing in his pocket but hopes of a better future. George resided in Queens, NY where he worked in many different restaurants and made life long friends along the way. He was a member of Minos Cretan Fraternity in NY for many years; there he was a founder, a board member and dance teacher. George was also a member of White Mountains Cretan Fraternity and St. Andrews Greek Orthodox Church in NJ. He was very proud of his culture and traditions, raising his children in the same way.
George met his wife Anna in 1984; they were married for almost 30 years and together they resided in Flanders, NJ. He was a beloved father to three children. He worked extremely hard to build his own business, Kavalos Produce; which he used to provide for his family. George kept his business until February of 2020, when he was then diagnosed with Stage Four Pancreatic Cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend. George is survived by his wife Anna, his two daughters Irene and Fotini, and his son Emmanuel.
All arrangements are private due to COVID-19. In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution in George Kavalos’ name to St. Andrews Greek Orthodox Church in Randolph, New Jersey.
