KATHY A LATOUR Beloved wife & mother, school nurse & co-minister After close to ten years of battling ovarian cancer with great courage and amazing grace, Kathy peacefully passed over into God’s loving embrace on August 10th, 2015. Even though her cup of suffering was great, she did not indulge in self-pity or bitterness. Instead she exhibited kindness, gentleness, and patience ever grateful for the cup of life, the Gift dearly given and dearly received. After having been a loving stay-at-home mom for her children Andre and Renee, Kathy returned to outside employment after graduating from County College of Morris as an R.N. Her compassionate nature and listening heart found fulfillment as a School Nurse and proud member of the Franklin School Staff in Summit, NJ. All through her struggle Kathy was lifted up by her sister nurses in Summit and by the Franklin School community. Along with her husband Ray of forty-three years, Kathy co-ministered in preparing couples for marriage in their Resurrection Faith Community in Randolph. For twenty-five years they shared the love and the joy of their marriage covenant. When Ray, an ordained deacon, would christen children at the life-giving font, Kathy would assist extending hospitality and sharing in the joy of these graced moments. Besides being part of the Women of Faith at Resurrection Parish, Kathy had also prayerfully served as Eucharistic Minister and with Ray brought Communion to others who were battling cancer. Her smile would brighten every place she went and cheer every person she encountered. That infectious smile radiated the peace and joy that came from her love of God, family, friends, and colleagues. In addition to her husband Ray whose heart breaks at her passing, Kathy’s love story will live on through her children Andre and his wife Alexis and through Renee Rippey and her husband Ben. Kathy was the daughter of faith-filled parents Hector and Helen Cyr who predeceased her. She leaves behind her brother Mark and his wife Beth of East Waterboro, Maine; her sister Lisa and her husband Paul of Buxton, Maine; and her youngest sibling Michele and her husband Todd of New Gloucester, Maine. She also leaves the imprint of kindness and courage on her nieces, nephews, and godchildren. In her final days she expressed her gratitude for the love and support of her Resurrection Parish family, the Diaconate Community of the Diocese of Paterson, the Summit Public Schools community, the devoted neighbors of Patty Lane and Ridgeview Lane as well as many compassionate medical professionals who journeyed with her, especially Dr. Jason Levitz, Dr. Karen Houck, and Dora Sharpe, R.N. Visitation will take place at Resurrection Parish, Randolph Friday, August 14th from 3:00 – 5:30 and 7:00 – 9:00 with a Vigil Service at 8:30. Kathy’s life, earthly and eternal, will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 15th at 10:30 at Resurrection Parish, Millbrook Avenue, Randolph, NJ. Memorials in Kathy’s honor can be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, New York, NY and The Samaritan Ministry, Resurrection Parish.
