A Time to Be Born
On November 16, 1943, Lillie Mae Mathews Fleming was born to the late James B. Mathews and Lula Stewart Mathews in Augusta, Georgia.
A Time to Grow
Lillie was educated in the Dorchester County Schools and graduated from Williams Memorial High School in St. George, SC in 1962, where she was part of the Dramatics Club. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She was very active at her home church, St. Matthews Baptist Church in Reevesville, SC, where she served as a Sunday School teacher. Lillie moved to New Jersey and attended the County College of Morris in Morristown, NJ, where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse. After graduation, she began working at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in Morris Plains, NJ as a Head Registered Nurse. She worked in that position until she retired in 1998. While working at Greystone Park, she met the man who would become her husband, James. They were married on September 6, 969 and they recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
A Time to Live
Lillie was a feisty lady who was full of personality and determination. She was an avid bowler, she enjoyed traveling, especially taking cruises, going to casinos, and she loved her New York Mets. Lillie was also a faithful member of the Greystone Park Longevity Club.
A Time to Die
Lillie answered God’s call on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover, NJ. Her father, James B. Mathews, brother, Marion Mathews, and sister Dorothy Kersey all preceded her in death.
A Time to Remember
Lillie leaves to cherish her precious memories: a devoted husband, James Fleming; her mother, Lula Mae Mathews of Reevesville, SC; one sister, Jannette (Larry) Young of Orlando, Fl; one brother, James (Jeanette) Mathews, of Summerville, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and dear friends.
Visitation Friday, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Tuttle Funeral Home 272 Route 10, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com) with a funeral service at 12:00 PM also at the funeral home.
Interment is at Northern N.J. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Sparta.
