Obituary of Lois D Marin

Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lois D. Marin, 92, formerly of Chester, NJ passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2019 in Garden City, SC after a lengthy illness.  She was born in Montclair, NJ to Peter and Irene Demelis and was a proud first-generation American.  She attended school in Montclair and would always note that “A Mountie born is a Mountie bred”.  Lois also spent afternoons working with her parents in their family business, The Puritan Pie Company.

Lois aspired to attend college and become a teacher.  She graduated from Upsala College and was the first woman in her family to attain a degree.  Early in her career, she taught History and English Arts in various school districts in Rochelle Park and Hasbrouck Heights.  She also worked on school plays and other extra-curricular activities, including driving one student to Little League games.  Little did she know then, that student would become the famous Yankee pitcher, Jim Bouton.

Lois married Nicholas F. Marin in 1954 and took time off to start their family, returning to teaching after a brief hiatus.  The majority of her 40-year teaching career was spent in the Roxbury Township school district.  Both her fellow teachers and students became her life-long friends.  She loved American History and enjoyed reading throughout her life.

“Lulu” as she was known to her immediate family and friends, was a wonderful mother and grandmother.  She was an active steward of St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church and was devout to her faith.

Lois was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas F. Marin in 1975.  She is survived by her sons Keith P. Marin (Holly) and Charles N. Marin (Eileen), both of Myrtle Beach, SC; Grandchildren Sara A. Marin and Christian N. Marin; her Brother, Ted Demelis of FL; and her Stepmother, Stamatia Demelis of New Brunswick, NJ.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 23rd from 4:00-8:00 pm at TuttIe Funeral Home in Randolph, N.J.   The Funeral will be held on Thursday, October 24th at 10:00 am at St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church in Randolph, NJ.  Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester, NJ.  May her memory be eternal.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 1447 Sussex Turnpike, Randolph, NJ  07869.
