Obituary of Marie Elizabeth Leach

Marie was born in 1929 to Carmelinda and Ernest DeRosa of Summit, NJ.  Marie’s older brother Ernest currently resides in Connecticut.

The DeRosa family owned and operated Ernie’s Confectionery Store on Park Avenue in Summit until the late 1950’s. They resided above the store and later moved to a house on Broad Street.  Marie graduated from Summit High School in 1946.  She was a secretary for the Prudential Insurance Company in Newark until 1954. During Marie’s time at Prudential, her co-worker Norma Creelman arranged for Marie to go on a blind date with her brother, Murray.  Murray lived in Summit and actually had been a customer of the confectionery store and knew Marie’s parents. He had seen Marie working there on occasion.  

Murray proposed to Marie on Valentine’s Day and they were married in April of 1953 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Summit.  After their marriage, Murray and Marie continued to reside in Summit on Edison Drive and later on Butler Parkway happily raising a family.  They moved to Randolph in 1963 to be closer to Dover Photo Supply, the retail camera store where Murray worked and eventually came to own.

Marie was active in the Fernbrook PTA and Randolph Women’s Club. She later helped out at Dover Photo.  Murray and Marie were members of the Newton Country Club for several years.  

Marie was a wonderful mother to Mark of Clinton, Marilyn Marzzacco of Sterling, VA, Stephen and David of Randolph, and Michael of Mendham.  She is predeceased by her parents, loving husband, Murray and wonderful son, David.  She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and many relatives and friends.

Funeral Mass at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 306 Morris Avenue, Summit, NJ 9:30 am

Interment to follow at St. Teresa’s Cemetery, Summit, NJ
