George Avener, 89, of Randolph, passed away Friday, April 10th, 2015 at home, following a long illness. George was born in Brooklyn, NY and has been a resident of Randolph since 1988. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations.
He formerly resided in Morristown and prior to that Great Neck, Long Island.
He worked as a Hardware Specialty Sales Representative at Century Fasteners Queens, NY, retired in 1983. During his retirement he also worked for AT&T.
His passion was music. He was a four part harmony arranger and director for Barber Shop style singing, quartets and choruses for men and women for over 30 years. He was a self-taught musician and born entertainer. He loved to cook and worked as a chef after he retired.
Survived by Judy Foster, his wife of 33 years; four children Leslie Avener, Marshall Avener both of Jacksonville, FL, Robin Bakay and husband Nick of West Hollywood, CA, Neal Avener of Budd Lake; and one stepdaughter, Donna LoBue of Tobyhanna, PA. Also survived by four grandchildren Hali, Baxley, James, Romeo; two step-grandchildren Megan, Samantha, great-grandson Bradley and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother Milton Avener and his sister Esther Avener.
Visitation Tuesday, April 14, 2015, 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph ( www.tuttlefh.com). Funeral Services will follow at 7:00 PM also at the funeral home.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center, 100 Madison Avenue, Box 110 Morristown, NJ 07962.
