Obituary of George Edward Crane

George Edward “Ed” Crane passed away on April 3rd, 2015 at home. He was a lifelong resident of Randolph, born and raised his family on a street previously known as Crane Hill, Mt. Fern. During World War II he enlisted in the Paratroopers. After being recognized as an expert marksman while attending gunnery school, he was transferred to the Air Force where he served as a waist gunner on a B24 Liberator bomber and completed 35 missions over Germany. After being honorably discharged in 1945, he returned to Picatinny where he worked for 42 years and retired in 1980. Ed reunited with his Air Force B24 crew later in life and attended annual reunions for many years. He enjoyed wild life and was known as a great outdoorsman- with special interests in hunting and fishing. Survived by his adoring wife, Doris, of nearly 72 years of marriage and four daughters; Doris Timbrook (Tom) of Hackettstown, Dianne Molatch (Henry) of North Caldwell, Shirley Whitmore of Haskell, Ark., and Marie Farrell (James) of Randolph. Ed also had 6 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren. The family had a private service. Arrangements by Tuttle Funeral Home, Randolph. Memorial contributions may be directed to Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation, 350 Sparta Ave Bldg B2, Sparta, NJ or Randolph Rescue Squad, 780 State Rt. 10W, Randolph.
