James Milonas, 85, of Dover, passed away Monday, March 30th, 2015 at Compassionate Care Hospice, St. Clares Hospital, Dover following a long illness. James was born in New York, NY and has been a resident of Dover since the 1940's. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He owned the Three Brothers Restaurant in Dover for 35 years. James graduated from Dover High School. Following his passion for making changes for the people in Dover, he served as an alderman for 11 years. But one of his greatest accomplishments in politics was brought to the federal level. On June 26, 1987, he was recognized by Hon. Dean A. Gallo in the Congressional Record for the HR 2609 Residential Mortgage Credit Fairness Act in 1988, which gave consumers lock-in interest rates on borrowed money. James was instrumental in starting the recycling program for the town of Dover. Dover was the first town in Morris County to start the recycling program, which other towns soon followed. James brought in a lot of monies for small city grants for the town of Dover. He was a member of the East Dover Social Club (a.k.a. Chicken Coop) and very active at the YMCA in Randolph.
Survived by his wife Aphrodite, of 61 years; four children Louie, Paula Hempel, Connie "Tina" Phillips and her husband Robert, Andy and his wife Heather; eight grandchildren Christopher, Craig, Caroline, Jimmy, Stephanie, Nicole, Dante, and Nikos and his great-granddaughter Aria. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services Saturday, April 4, 2015, at St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 1447 Sussex Turnpike, Randolph (973-584-0388). Entombment at Locust Hill Mausoleum, Dover.
