Obituary of Benjamin Louis Struble

Benjamin Louis Struble died at home surrounded by his two daughters Nancy and Jacquelyn on February 15, 2015 after a long illness. Born in 1927 to Helen and Robert Struble in Morristown, he was a lifelong resident of Rockaway Township. He attended elementary school in Rockaway Township. He graduated from Dover High School in June 1945 and while in high school worked at Picatinny Arsenal. After graduation, he entered the service. He briefly served in the United State Navy at the end of World War II. After leaving the service, he worked for a time in maintenance at Eagle Pitcher. He later went to work for Morris County in the Department of Weights and Measures. During his time there, he was promoted to the position of Superintendent of the department. He retired in 1992. Benjamin was predeceased by his wife Sophie Struble, who died in 2001. They were married on August 10, 1947 at Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Rockaway. The couple celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1997 and had been married 53 years at the time of Sophie's death. Ben's favorite activity in life was gardening; he especially loved raising corn and tomatoes. There were summers during which he planted and harvested from 1,000 tomato plants. He also enjoyed hunting and cooking. He made many delicious dinners for his family. He was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church in Dover. He was also a member of Post 344 at the American Legion and of Acacia Lodge #20 of Free and Accepted Masons. Benjamin is survived by his daughters Nancy and Jacquelyn of Rockaway Township; his sister Marian George and her husband John of Rockaway Township; his brother Robert of Rockaway Borough; his sister-in-law Agnes Struble of Rockaway Borough; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Harry "Bud" Struble in 2007.

Funeral Service Friday, February 20, 2015, 10:00 AM at Grace United Methodist Church, Dover (973-366-3681). Interment will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover.
