Raymond Edward Collins, 69, of Elizabeth, passed away Tuesday, December 30th, 2014 at Morristown Medical Center, Morristown, following a long illness. Raymond was born in Montclair and has been a resident of Elizabeth for the last 20 years. He grew up in Pittsburgh and Bethlehem, PA.
He served in the U.S. Army, Artillery Division, ARADCOM, SP4 during the Vietnam War. Marksman, M-14 and Sharpshooter, M-2. Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Eastern Chapter 779.
Raymond graduated from Notre Dame High School in Easton, PA. Academic accomplishments Rutgers University, Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Political Science, 1972, took courses in English Literature at the University of California, Berkley in 1992, Rutgers University, Masters of Arts (M.A.), Criminal Justice, 1996 and Rutgers University, Ph.D. ABD, Neuro Psychology, 2006. Authored the article, "Onset and Desistance in Criminal Careers: Neurobiology and the Age-Crime Relationship" in the academic journal "Journal of Offender Rehabilitation, Vol. 39 (3)" which was published in 2004. Authored the chapter, "Neurotransmitters: Indirect Molecular Invitations to Aggressions" in the academic text "Biosocial Theories of Crime," which was published in 2011. Adjunct professor at Rutgers University and visiting instructor at Seton Hall University.
While being educated he also worked in the trucking industry as a loading dock supervisor and trucking dispatcher. Raymond enjoyed watching the History Channel and its documentaries, reading historical genre about U.S., China, and Europe. He was an avid Rutgers football fan.
Survived by his sister Kathleen M. Wetzel and her husband William C. of Randolph two brothers Edward K. Collins of Belleville and Robert K. Collins and his wife Jenny of Newport News, VA and his nephew Matthew R. Wetzel of Randolph.
Predeceased by his parents Edward J. and Mary A. (neeCurtin) Collins.
Visitation Wednesday, January 7, 2015, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com).
Funeral Mass at Resurrection Parish, Randolph, Thursday, January 8, 2015, 11:00 AM. Interment is private.
