J.C. (Jack) Bennett died on Saturday, November 28, 2014 in Dover. He and his wife, best friend, and companion Betty grew up in Dover and were married for more than 52 years. They traveled together to more than 80 countries on all seven continents and sailed the 7 seas. They completed their quest to see all Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. His permanent residence for the past 62 years was in the Glacier Hills section of Parsippany, and Halsey Island Lake Hopatcong. He was born in 1925 and raised in Dover, graduated from Dover High School and Morristown School before entering Rutgers University. He joined the Navy (Seabees) and served 3 years before being discharge with the rank of Lieutenant. He finished his education at Swarthmore College graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. In 1946 he secured a position as field engineer with the Austin Company generally regarded as the world's largest Design Build and Construction firm in the world, he went on to be elected to the Board of Directors where he served for 20 years, he retired in 1976. He held registered Professional Engineer Licenses in 48 States the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, Canada, Venezuela, France, and Greece. he HHe went on to become the president and CEO of Structures Inc. of Chicago, Chairman of the board of Scandia Inc. of Atlanta and CEO of Advance Technology Systems of Fairlawn New Jersey. He was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church of Dover for 74 years and served as a Sunday School Teacher, Usher, and Trustee. He founded a Nursing Scholarship at the County College of Morris. He served as director of the Easter Seal Society of Morris Plains for 7 years, and he served as director of the Morristown YMCA for 15 years. He is survived by two sons Lance and Stephen, two daughters Bethany and Colleen, and two grandchildren Russell and Alyssa.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014, 4:00-8:00PM, Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com). Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014, 10:00AM, also at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover.
