Obituary of Carmen A. Pennella

Carmen A. Pennella, 89, of Dover, passed away Monday, November 17th, 2014 in the arms of his loving wife of 68 years, Helen and surrounded by his family, at Compassionate Care Hospice Saint Clare's Hospital, Dover. All that love could do was done. Carmen was born in Dover and has been a lifelong resident of Dover. He was Owner/Operator at Carmen's Luncheonette, Dover and retired in 1990 after 40 years. Carmen was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the East Dover Social Club and was an umpire in the initial year of the Dover Little League. Carmen with his wife, Helen, turned their store, Carmen's Luncheonette into a Dover tradition. From 1950 to 1990, Dover schoolchildren came to Carmen's Luncheonette for their candy, ice cream and Snow-Cones. Dover High School athletes came for the meatball or steak sandwiches and milkshakes. Years after Carmen's retirement people he did not recognize would come up and tell him how fondly they remembered Carmen's Luncheonette which provided many years of happy memories. Survived by his wife Helen, his son David C. and his wife Lisa of Mendham Township, his adored grandchildren David Jr., Jessica, Allison, and Kimberly and many loved nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother Thomas. Visitation Friday, November 21, 2014, 3:30 PM - 7:30 PM at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com ). Funeral Mass Saturday, November 22, 2014, 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, Dover. Entombment will follow at Locust Hill Mausoleum, Dover.
