John Smith of Morristown, Nj passed away at his home on July 14, 2014. Known for his laughter, wisdom, love for his family, and faith in God, he was a staple in the community and in his entire family as well.
Mr.Smith was born on March 22, 1946 in Rock Hill, SC, the second eldest of eight children to Ann Forbes(nee McCullough), and John Smith Sr. As a toddler he relocated to New Jersey with his maternal grand-parents, whom he also loved dearly.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed quartet Gospel singing, western movies, and was an avid baseball fan as well as a gifted baseball player, playing fast pitch soft ball around the state. He especially enjoyed encouraging others when talking about the Lord. He had a profound love for his family (his sons, daughters in law, and his cherished grand-children, whom referred to him as Pop-Pop).
Mr. Smith was employed for 30 years at the SMCMUA(Water Authority) and retired in 2002 as one of the most respected, beloved, and knowledgable employees in the history of the company.
Mr. Smith is survived by his mother Annie J. Forbes of Dover,NJ. His brothers Fred McCullough of Neptune NJ, Willie Smith (Gloria) of Virginia, and Roy Smith of Dover, NJ. HIs sisters Ann Marshall (Archie) and Sadie Smith both of Nightingdale, NC and Frances Gallman (Henry) of Rock Hill, SC. His sons Jonathan S. Smith (Astrid) of Morristown,NJ, and Eric C. Smith (Sandra) of Lodi, NJ. Also his grand-children ( Stephon, Eric T., Jazmine, Jada, Jaylen, Jasline, Joziah, and Jordin) whom he loved so much.He also is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
All funeral arrangements are made by Tuttle Funeral Home, The wake will be July 17, 2014 from 5pm-9pm with a home going service from 7-8pm. There will be a brief viewing July 18,2014 from 10am-11am. All will be at Tuttle's. Immediately following the viewing will be the interment at Holy Rood Cemetery in Morristown, NJ.
