Obituary of Sondra "Sandy" Mayer
Sondra “Sandy” Mayer, 88, of Morristown, passed away following a brief illness, with her family by her side, on Monday, September 18, 2017, at Overlook Hospital, Summit. Sandy spent half of her life in Dover and resided in Morristown for the last 49 years.
She worked as a Teacher for School Street School, Boonton for 30 years and retired in 1991.
Sandy loved quality time with her family and cousins. She enjoyed being a “snowbird” and spent 20 winters in Delray Beach, FL. She had a passion for live music, all types of theater, antiquing, quilting and knitting. Sandy was a pioneer for mental health and was the founder for Community Hope, which now provides transition housing for hundreds of veterans and people of various needs.
Sandy is survived by her son Robert and his wife Daran of IL; three grandchildren Alissa, Nancy and Scott; and longtime companion Larry Katz of 45 years. She is predeceased by her son Kenneth and her husband Irving.
A gathering of friends and family will take place Wednesday, September 20, 2017, 10:00-11:00AM with a Funeral Service beginning at 11:00AM at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (tuttlefh.com). Interment to follow at Dover Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Randolph.
